LOUISIANA-MISSISSIPPI

In the early 1980’s a small group of color guard enthusiasts from Louisiana took a major step forward when they entered their novice units in the Gulf Coast Color Guard Circuit for the first time. Those early units took the GCGC by surprise and more than twenty years later many of those original units are now the backbone of the LCGPC. In the late 1990’s the GCGC West Division was started to accommodate the growing number of guards and percussion units in Louisiana and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. As the number of units continued to grow, it became apparent that it was time for the Louisiana guards to leave the nest and begin their own circuit. So, in 2005 the GCGC West Division was officially changed to GCGC Louisiana Division for the 2006 season and in late 2006 the Louisiana Color Guard and Percussion Circuit was officially formed as an organization completely independent of the GCGC.

In our inaugural season we fielded a total of 50 units-37 color guards and 13 percussion units-and hosted a total of 8 shows and a Field Day. Shows were held at venues from Jennings to Hammond with the first LCGPC Circuit Championships being hosted by Bonnabel High School at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. A total of 43 units participated at the first circuit championships in a total of 12 classes—a great turnout for our first year. The LCGPC also had a total of 6 units participate at WGI Color Guard World Championships and 2 units participate in the WGI Percussion World Championships. Denham Springs High School Winter Guard and E.D. White High School Indoor Percussion were both finalists in their respective classes.
